Life Skills - Task Box - Hardware Store - Tools - Vocational Training

Many students love going to the hardware store to shop around for small projects around the house with their family. All the tools and supplies definitely capture students' interest and offer a very promising vocational opportunity for them in the future.

I created this task box to capture students' natural motivation for working with tools in an effort to align it with in-class vocational instruction. With this hardware store themed task box, students get an opportunity to work on their real world reading skills to promote success in the workforce.

Students get the chance to practice two levels in this task box. Level one asks students to sort a variety of flanges, pipes, elbow connectors, and iron caps by style and size. Once students master this stage, they move onto level two where they are asked to find specific pieces for a project that they will be completing at home. This task box is a great way to have students practice reading, sorting, fraction measurements, and following directions as well.

Kids LOVE completing this and have a blast! Don't forget to integrate this into your IEP goals to address transitional/vocational skills!

Level One:
